FAQ

For more than 30 years, Step Out®  has served as the signature fundraising walking event of the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) that raises critical funds for research, advocacy, and education and promotes the ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Step Out has strong support from the business community, including sponsorship and corporate teams. It also engages families and individuals who want to impact the lives of people with diabetes positively. 

 

Registration to attend is free for everyone!

Participants who raise $100 will receive our official Step Out event T-shirt. Additional recognition gifts are earned when other fundraising milestones are met. Check out our recognition site.

All ages are welcome to join the walk, though youth younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Register the whole family for a day of fun!

We encourage you to enter your offline donations through your participant center, so your fundraising status reflects your actual total raised towards your fundraising goal. Once you have completed the entry, please mail your check with a note indicating your name, walk location, and team name. Please do not mail cash. If you need assistance with your offline donations, please contact your local Step Out staff member, who's listed on the front page of the local event website.

You can print a page of ADA receipts and fill them out as needed. All online donors receive a receipt via email at the time of their donation.

Forming a Step Out team is easy! Find your local event at diabetes.org/stepout, select "Register,” and create your team today. Then, ask friends, family, and coworkers to join your team and help us progress toward a world without diabetes and all its burdens. 

We’re counting on companies to be leaders in the community to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Companies can participate in Step Out in many ways, including forming a local team, joining the National Team, and sponsoring the event. We recommend teams of 10, but there is no minimum number. Tell your friends, family, and coworkers why you are walking and ask them to join you. Teammates don’t have to live in the same city—they can support the team and fundraise from anywhere!

The best fundraising efforts start by sharing your personal story about why you're participating in Step Out. Visit your participant center to include your story on your personal fundraising page. Once your page is updated, please share it with friends, family, and coworkers via email, social networks, and word of mouth.

Log in to your Participant Center and select “Connect to Facebook” to set up a Facebook fundraiser. All donations received through Facebook will be credited to your fundraising page and go toward your Step Out goal.

Step Out Champions are participants who individually reach the $1,000 fundraising milestone.  These individuals are leading the way to change the lives of those impacted by diabetes and receive special perks. Learn more about Champions here.
