- Step Out® Walk is the premier walking fundraising event of the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) that creates a sense of unity and shared purpose in the fight to end diabetes. This event increases awareness, connects communities, contributes to diabetes prevention and management, and supports the ADA’s vision of life free of diabetes and all its burdens.
- Step Out Walk holds strong support from the business community, including sponsorship and corporate teams, and engages families and individuals who are passionate about our mission and want to impact the lives of those living with diabetes.
- Step Out Walk events raise funding for research, advocacy, and education to support the ADA’s mission.
No. Participants are encouraged to raise funds for the critical work the ADA is doing that impacts the lives of the millions of people affected by diabetes.
No, but participants who raise $100 will receive our official Step Out t-shirt. Additional recognition gifts are earned when other fundraising milestones are achieved.
All ages are welcome to join the walk, though youth younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Register the whole family for a day of fun!

Print and fill out one of the receipts in this downloadable document. All online donors will receive a receipt via email.
Forming a team is easy! Find your local Step Out Walk, select “Register” and create your team. Then, ask friends, family, and coworkers to join your team and help raise critical funds to advance our mission.
Companies can participate in many ways, including forming a local team, joining their National Team, and sponsoring the event. To learn more about our corporate opportunities, please complete this form.
The more, the merrier! Teams should strive to include 10 or more individuals. There is no limit as to how large or small a team can be.
The best fundraising efforts start by sharing your personal story about why you're participating in Step Out. Visit your Participant Center to include your story on your personal fundraising page. Once your page is updated, please share it with friends, family, and coworkers via email, social networks, and word of mouth.
Log in to your Participant Center and select “Connect to Facebook” to set up a Facebook fundraiser. All donations received through Facebook will be credited to your fundraising page and go toward your Step Out goal. Facebook donors can be thanked via your Facebook fundraiser.
The former Step Out Walk-branded app will not work with our new DonorDrive event platform. Please download the Donor Drive mobile fundraising app—which lets you track your miles with your favorite activity tracker—and use all the mobile fundraising features while on the go! Step Out Walk Champions are participants who individually raise $1,000 or more. They are leading the way to change the lives of those impacted by diabetes and receive special perks and swag. Learn more about Champions.
